Last Few Days in NY

It feels good to be back in Seattle. The five-day-trip in NYC was a pretty awesome experience, but I can’t say it was not nice to have Ryan waiting for me outside at the airport and to be back home in the Emerald City.

I had flown into Newark around 2:30AM Wednesday night, by the time I had made it to my hotel in Manhattan, it was past 3AM. The planes had been delayed into Newark for hours due to thunderstorms. It wasn’t a great start since I had to be up early the next day for work and a client presentation. Oh rain, how you would further pwn me in the days to follow.

I got about four hours of sleep my first night, but despite this and the travel, I was wide-awake my first 21 hours in New York due to just adrenaline. To be honest, working there was a great deal of fun and I had the chance to familiarize myself with our NY office. The last couple weeks at work have been exciting in general, and the last few days in New York only further testified to that. I really like my job.

After work Thursday night I met up with Greg and we walked to Times Square for Tad’s Steaks. Think 15 combos of beef + potatoes. It was good. Then started the rain. For anyone who was paying attention to the news this last week, you might’ve heard that New York received record rainfall. It was insane. Non-stop pouring down rain. It was in this rain that Greg I took a taxi to Penn Station, a train to Queens, a walk in the sopping rain to Greg’s apartment, a walk back in the rain, back onto a train, onto a subway, and back onto the streets again to walk back to my hotel. All this to drop off my luggage. Needless to say, we were soaked, and this combined with my little sleep and exposure to the day’s plethora of mass transportation left me sick the next morning. (And still sick now, actually.)

That aside, that miserable wetness aside, yeah. Friday night after work Greg and I met up again (this time we thankfully stayed dry) but unfortunately I was feeling pretty under the weather. After dinner at Cozi’s we had went to the Gotham Comedy Club. This was probably one of the coolest things we did in New York together. Unfortunately I was feeling too sick to drink but I did develop a slight addiction to black tea with milk and sugar (not to mention enjoyed New York’s smoke-free bars <333333). The line-up was pretty awesome and good times were had. I even received a free mug! Apparently USA Today rated it as one of the top 10 comedy clubs in the nation. What luck. A day in the office followed by a comedy club? Yeah, despite being sick, a pretty cool combination.

Saturday was actually my only real “play” day w/no work. It was a day of playing tourist, touring the CNN studios, NBC studios, and spending part of the day at the American Museum of Natural History. (Yea! Largest collection of dinosaur bones! Haha. Okay, that wasn’t the real reason we went but a nice find nonetheless.) We had lunch at a swanky place called the Eatery and dinner at this real nice candlelit Italian place. The day was supposed to end with ride up the Empire State Building, but the lines were horrendous. In sum, I am now filled with even more trivial facts and photos of dorky things to be uploaded later.

And now to bed with me. I’m still on East Coast time. Maybe if I do this right, going into work tomorrow at 8AM will feel like 11AM, hmm..

oh I love New York. It’s funny, I had almost the exact same experience when I went forever ago – minus the rain and work. I saw Colin Quinn at a comedy club back when he was on SNL… I don’t know how he lasted on that show. Hope you feel better soon! Next time you go, you have to eat a piroshki – way better then here!
