Seattle: “El Diablo” at Tango

El Diablo ($10)

Bittersweet cube of sinfully rich dark chocolate graced with cayenne, spicy almonds, cocoa nibs and burnt meringue finished with a tequila caramel sauce

I actually didn’t have this dessert but Ryan did. I think the description and the photo alone does it justice. The one bit I had was incredible. That said, I think that’s all I could handle. Needless to say, it’s a pretty intense dessert, but if you’re a big chocolate fan, I recommend taking it for a spin.

As for me, I’ll stick to the pumpkin flan. You really can’t lose.

San Francisco: Tamarind Prawns at Colibri

I dig this place.

Colibri Mexican Bistro is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown San Francisco. Ryan and I first went here for tapas on our third anniversary a few years ago. I had the chance to go back last month to try their lunch.

Pictured above are some delicious prawns drenched in a tamarind sauce with Colibri’s signature tortillas. The tortillas arrive fresh–delightfully fluffy and warm, yet still sturdy enough to hold copious amounts of sauced seafood. I always tell myself to not waste my appetite on tortillas, but I can’t keep my hands off them. It’s a challenge to not finish the whole plate before the food arrives, not to mention the three salsas that arrive with it.

Enough about tortillas. I had tamarind agua fresca to boot! Tamarind all round! Sure, why not.

sweet potato pie.

Rice Noodle Soup I Made

Bihon noodles with ground turkey meat cooked in a cilantro sesame marinade, in chicken broth with soy sauce and minced garlic. Topped with chopped green onions, basil leaves, and crunchy fried garlic.

It’s been a long day and I wanted soup. Time to prepare: 15 minutes and no recipe! Somehow it’s the best soup I’ve ever made. *slurp*
