  • Spent 55 days traveling, compared to the 101 days on the road last year!
  • Flew only 38,678 miles; goodbye MVP Gold status, you were good to me.
  • Visited 2 new international cities: Tokyo and San Jose del Cabo; 1 short of last year’s resolution, but FWIW Tokyo is enormous!
  • I traveled primarily for leisure: days were spent 75% for pleasure and 25% for business.

Cherry blossoms in Shinjuku

Despite the less travel, I found myself increasingly grateful for the ability to jet off to work, explore different countries with Ryan, and be with family and friends these last six years. God has done great things for me.

Old Town Alexandria

Old Town Alexandria

This week I had the opportunity to travel back to Alexandria for work after a year-long hiatus. It wasn’t until my plane was pulling into the DC area did I realize how much I missed my monthly trips there.

It was great to stay in familiar territory in Old Town, spend time in the District to see friends, and ride the Metro back. I was only on the ground for 24 hours but I managed to make the most of it. Will definitely have to consider a trip out again in the Spring to make more time to see my beloved VA / DC / F1 peeps. Until next time!

Catholics for Marriage Equality

Ad from Catholics for Marriage Equality Washington State

For my Catholic friends and family, learn about Marriage Equality:

Pope Benedict once wrote, “Over the Pope as expression of the binding claim of ecclesiastical authority, there stands one’s own conscience which must be obeyed before all else, even if necessary against the requirement of ecclesiastical authority.”

In the US bishops’ document Faithful Citizenship they write, “Conscience is the voice of God resounding in the human heart, revealing the truth to us and calling us to do what is good while shunning evil.”

We Catholics follow our consciences based on scripture, the teachings of the Church and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Our individual conscience is beyond the claim of external groups, even the official Church. On the subject of approving a civil law regarding marriage equality today in Washington State, we are following our conscience. We believe the stance of our bishops is wrong and hurtful to many.

As Catholics for Marriage Equality Washington State, we believe then new law of our state is consistent with the Gospel values of love, inclusion and fairness.
