I should be going to bed so I’ll write on the weekend later…hopefully.
Today was a nice day. I mean, it started rough. I was still feeling sleep-deprived, achy, and was awoken by my neighbor’s bass this morning. But I stumbled groggily into Jules room where she invited me to brunch at Portage Bay Cafe with her, Austa, and Paul. Reasoning I’d feel less grumpy with food in me, I changed and we set off.
There, we had a short wait and a seat outside. Now, I’m not one for organic stuff. Not that I’m against the notion, I just don’t find the practicality in eating only organic foods. Okay, screw the practicality, you’d miss out on Corn Pops. And while yes, sometimes I think Ryan and I have a vendetta against all things organic (or is it hippie?), Portage Bay Cafe is organic and… it is good. Like really good. I had hot chocolate to keep me warm, shared some corned beef and eggs with Paul, and had a short stack of buttermilk pancakes.
Now, you may think that all pancakes taste more or less the same, but not these pancakes. These are probably by far the best pancakes (with the special exception of IHOP’s pumpkin pancakes) I’ve ever tasted. They were so big and fluffy. I couldn’t even finish one. ONE. I got pwned by three-quarters of a pancake (topped with fresh berries and whipped cream)! And this is coming from a girl who has left Claim Jumper hungry. So brunch was good. In the end we all had leftovers. I am truly impressed.
Then Jules took Austa to the airport and I fell asleep. For a while. Wow it felt good to rest. This is what I should’ve been doing all Sunday. The rest of the afternoon was spent lying in bed, reading, and working on Microsoft Money. Later, Stephen asked to go out for bubble tea and I suggested we get Thai instead.
So he picked me up and we went to Wallingford to try a new Thai place. We went to two and they were both closed. Then driving back on 45th, Stephen noted he’d always wanted to try that place, as he pointed to a white house with a sign in front that read “Jhaan’s Thai Food” (actually I forget the name, but I remember it having double consonants in the front :P). So feeling adventurous, we went.
Yeah, it’s a house. And the dining area is well, the dining room. But the set-up is very “fine dining”. Like linen napkins nice. The prices were actually pretty comparable to any other Thai restaurant on the Ave. (with the exception of a few “specialty dishes”). It, like Portage Bay, was good. The scene was particularly unique, in that it’s so elegant inside and you’re in someone’s house. Definitely a place to be repeated.
Then I showed up to Capoeira late cause I missed my bus. But practice was good and not as intense as usual (maybe missing 1/3 of class does that). I finally got a uniform! Yeah, me in white pants…right. And we played with instruments at the end of class. Afterward, I walked to Broadway and missed yet another bus. But Ryan came to the rescue and picked me up and I dropped by his place for a while and said bye to his mom, as she leaves tomorrow back to MN. Oh and I showed them my new white pants, har har.
Now it’s late, but I’m not really tired yet. Sleep schedule is now whack. Busy week at work this week though too. Need to make sure things get done before Vegas. Yes, Vegas.
And goodnight.

LOL. I think the same thing. Hahaha. 😀
Pics of you in uniform pls.
I LOVE IHOP pumpkin pancakes. My last thanksgiving in Seattle I ate them twice. My favorite pancakes are at Cracker Barrel. Have you eaten them? How do they compare with Portage Bay?
Ooh Cracker Barrel. A place of dreams that is. I don’t know. I don’t remember the Cracker Barrel pancakes standing out to me so much. But then again that’s probably b/c I was preoccupied with my cheese grits.
