Ryan and I saw Hero today. Visually, it was beautiful. The colors were so vivid. My favorite was the fight scene between Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Cheung draped in deep red robes against the scene of golden autumn leaves. It was something about how the clothing draped off the characters, the vibrant contrasting colors of each scene, and the litheness of their movements that appealed to my eye.

However, it was kinda boring. The movie seemed to move slowly. The story was interesting but it just seemed to drag. The fight scenes were cool, but then too repetitive and the wire-work became excessive. Zhang Ziyi was annoying and well, weak. It was cool to see Maggie Cheung act for the first time though. The plot played with Qinshihuangdi’s uniting of China. It was kinda neat cause they played off of some historical facts like his obsession with standardization and paranoia of being assasinated. Beyond that it was very fantasy-like with the imagery to match. But, overall I was disappointed. Had been hoping to be skipping (angle-hopping perhaps) out of the theater, hands on guard in excitement. Oh well.

Afterward we had Culvers for dinner. It was awesome. And so ridiculously greasy. The wrapper of my sandwhich was clear by the time I pulled it out of the bag. Ryan’s double bacon ButterBurger (yeah, you read that right) alone was 780 calories, haha. My sourdough melt–a mere 50% of my daily value of fat. Then we made Lefse.

Hey, thanks for the link to all the wonderful food you and your beau had to eat, it made my day. Hope you are having fun, and for some reason I have the urge to make and devour a bucket of cookies.
